Anvils in the Sky

Another flying visit up and down the A9 to Thurso this weekend. Despite my poetic visions of slate-grey skies and windswept moorland, the weather remained resolutely bright, crisp and sunny throughout.....I did manage to capture some great shots from the roadside, including some spectacular Cumulonimbus Incus "Anvil" clouds (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/learning/clouds/cloud-names-classifications) off the Caithness coast.

"Anvil" clouds off the coast near Latheron - the precipitation is visible underneath the clouds, heading towards the oil rigs and wind turbines on the North Sea horizon.
